A brief overview of heavy-duty AGV and its characteristics

1. Definition of heavy-duty AGV
Heavy-duty AGV is a conveying tool used for heavy-duty parts handling or assembly. It can carry out corresponding non-standard design according to actual working conditions, and increase lifting, reprinting and other mechanisms to meet the use requirements of users. However, there is no uniform standard in the industry for AGV with a load greater than how many tons it is defined as a heavy load.
Based on the long-term experience of product development, the difficulty of AGV structure design increases with the increase of load. When the load reaches about 5 tons, the body structure of AGV cannot be implemented according to the design idea of light load. It is necessary to adopt special driving wheels for AGV with stronger bearing and driving capacity. Motor power consumption and working current will be increased; AGV frame strength needs to be strengthened; The lifting form is also changed from electric to hydraulic lifting. Therefore, we are used to define 5 tons and above AGV as heavy-duty AGV.
2. Heavy AGV core indicators and characteristics
(1) The most important sign of heavy-duty AGV is its heavy load and high technical difficulty. AGV carries several tons of light and several hundred tons of weight. With the increase of bearing capacity, the difficulty of navigation control, mechanical design and safety protection of AGV are greatly improved. This undoubtedly requires higher comprehensive capabilities of AGV manufacturers.
2) Security. The safety of heavy-duty AGV is a very important assessment index in the process of industrial plant and outdoor use. The safety of heavy-duty AGV with industrial unmanned automatic operation shall meet ISO 3691 standard, and the safety level shall be designed according to PL level, emergency stop, contact protection device, non-contact protection device (with safety certification), operation indicator light, sound alarm, brake, stall protection function and safety protection of actuator shall be installed.
3) The speed. Heavy-duty AGV has a large volume and a very large weight when fully loaded, so its operating speed is generally below 0.5 m/s, which is mainly determined by factors such as the operating environment of heavy-duty AGV and the braking distance after emergency stop. It is not recommended that heavy-duty AGV work at a speed greater than 0.5 m/s during operation.
(4) Widely used. Heavy-duty AGVs can be applied to almost all scenarios where heavy goods or components are handled or assembled. This weight class of goods or parts, whether it is lifting handling, or transfer assembly, is a difficult point. The use of AGV can reduce the number of hoisting of workpieces and improve the safety of the system. Especially in the application of transfer assembly, AGV can customize the upper tooling according to the process requirements to assist the assembly of heavy components, improve assembly efficiency and safety, and also reduce the labor intensity of workers.
